The Summit: A Modern Take on Jazz

Fans of the classic “rat pack” sound will love The Summit. The band, comprised of members Brad Barnes, Antoine Coetzee, Vinny Mentry, and CJ Natoli, pulls its inspiration from singers like Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Jerry Lewis, and Sammy Davis, Jr. Combining jazz, swing, blues, and pop elements, their modern take on the crooner-style music is fun and nostalgic.

After five years together, the band decided to part ways in 2018. Their farewell album titled Brick and Mortar includes covers of hits like “Fly Me to the Moon” and “Mack the Knife.” In addition to their classic covers, the band also recorded music from today, including covers of Nick Jonas’s “Chains” and The Weeknd’s “Can’t Feel My Face.” Inspired by the Christmas albums of fellow jazz musician Michael Buble, The Summit released covers of holiday favorites as well.

The band frequently performed live at jazz clubs around Hollywood and Los Angeles, CA, where the members resided. In 2017, they joined the crew of Norweigan Cruise Line on a voyage through Central America, entertaining guests with their act. With hundreds of live performances under their belts, the group gained a following of fans who appreciate the crooner style of music.

One of the highlights of The Summit’s career was when they got to record at the Evergreen Stage. The band said “Today we got to stand where Sinatra stood. Record where he recorded. And create in the same space he created. We could feel his energy over us and it was AMAZING! Thank you to everyone who helped make this album a reality. We couldn't have done it without you.”

Having the opportunity to record in the same place and use some of the same recording equipment as one of their idols was an unforgettable experience for each member of the band.
